CLAXTON, Ga. (WTOC) - An Evans County family is without a home after it caught fire late Thursday night.
The Claxton Fire Department says it happened at a home in the area of Church and Jones streets in Claxton. They say the residents made it out safe, but the home was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived and is heavily damaged.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Senior Citizens, Inc. is still closed to the public due to COVID-19. But the president and CEO says some of their services will soon be making a return.
SCI will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new building on Friday, Jan. 8, which is something that was expected to happen almost a year ago but couldn’t because of COVID-19.
Construction on the new building ended last year. But due to the coronavirus, SCI has been unable to share it with the public.

BULLOCH CO., Ga. (WTOC) - A former Bulloch County sheriffâs deputy has been sentenced to prison for possession of child pornography.
Travis Tuenge, 44, of Statesboro, was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison in U.S. District Court on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to one count of Possession of Child Pornography.
Court documents show the investigation began after suspicious text messages from Teunge were reported to the Sheriffâs Office. A joint investigation between the GBI and the Sheriffâs Office found images of child pornography on his phone.

WASHINGTON - A handful of Senate Republicans who had vowed to protest President-elect Joe Biden s electoral college win abruptly reversed their objections after a mob of President Donald Trump s supporters violently stormed the Capitol - even as other rogue senators signaled they would continue to contest the election results after Wednesday s deadly siege.
Sens. Steve Daines, R-Mont., James Lankford, R-Okla., and Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., who all endorsed objections to the tallying of electors in key disputed states, said they would stand down and support the affirmation of the election results. Loeffler, who lost her bid to retain her appointed seat Tuesday night, said she could no longer in good conscience do so after the hours-long melee that sent senators rushing to safety.
